The
Chorus warmly welcomes new singing members. We rehearse on
alternate
Saturday afternoons in Northallerton Methodist Church Hall (in the
centre of Northallerton) from 2pm to 5pm, with a break in the
summer.
from
Streetmap
Access to the Hall is along the passageway to the right of the church
and through the double doors on the left.
Come
along and see if you enjoy singing
with us. If you do and decide to stay, there is an annual
subscription
which is currently £80
(£70 if over 60 years old; free for students in full-time
education). Subscriptions become due immediately after the
AGM in
October and should be paid by the time of the first concert of the
season (usually at the end of November). There is a penalty
of an
additional £5 on payments made after December. A reduced rate
is
available for those who join part way through a year.
After a few
weeks you
will be invited to attend a simple audition on a Saturday afternoon
prior to the normal rehearsal time. The only people present
at this
will be yourself, our Accompanist and our Principal Conductor.
You will
be asked to sing some scales and to sing a short piece of music of your
own choice appropriate to your voice. Whilst it is desirable
for
members to have some sight reading experience, sight reading does not
form part of the audition.
Music
can be hired for a small fee or bought through the Chorus. If
you have your own music, please check in advance that it is a suitable
edition. Please bring a soft pencil with you to rehearsals.
Members
are encouraged to sell concert tickets to friends and family.

Members
may not normally take part in a concert if they have missed more than 3
rehearsals in the schedule for that concert: in this case you should
discuss your eligibility to sing with the Principal Conductor and the
Chairman.
Should
you need to leave a rehearsal before the end, please explain this to
your section leader before you go. Section leaders
are: sopranos
Julia Dowson; altos
Ann Hutchings; tenors
Tony May; basses
Rob Widdows.

"Friends"
Scheme
We have a
new way in which friends, relatives, music-lovers and members of the local community who enjoy our concerts can support the
NYC. We would like to invite you to become "Friends" by making an annual donation.
A "Friend" can register for £25 annually, and receive one £8
voucher towards a ticket for any of the concerts in the current
season (each
season runs from September to May) .
Following
the very successful concert of The Dream of Gerontius by Elgar, we
would like to thank all Friends and Donors for their help in raising
funds for a wonderful project. With the reduction in Arts
Funding, all forms of grant are now very few and far between. As
a result we need to raise extra financial support in order to continue
to promote concerts, with soloists, orchestras and accompanists of
professional standard, and this we can do with your generous help.
Hazel Sumsion, Chair
To join the "Friends" Scheme please
complete the
Application
Form (pdf) and
send it to the NYC Friends Secretary, Judith Richardson. If you have a
question, please use the email link.
